During the first world war many pocket watches were converted to wristwatches by soldering on lugs and adding a leather strap. These watches are commonly referred to as “transitional” or “trench” watches and are popular with collectors today. The reason for these conversions was to make the watch more accessible for timing of military manoeuvres, having to pull one’s watch out of the pocket to see the time just wasn’t practical in the trenches. The watch offered for sale is antique circa early 1900’s and was recently converted by a skilled craftsman.
Photos are not actual size of watch, the case measures 16mm in thickness, 48mm in diameter excluding the crown and is fit with a custom made leather bracelet.
