This is a very nice rose gold filled transitional watch which dates to the beginning of the first world war. Transitional watches are so named because this was the transition period from pocket watch to a watch strapped to the wrist (wristwatch). Some times these watches are also called trench watches which refers to the practice of military personnel to strap a watch to their wrist for quick time checks (instead of keeping it in their pocket) while fighting in the trenches. This watch has a great antique old vintage look, the porcelain dial is very sharp and is unusual (has a couple of hairlines), and the case is excellent condition with no wear. The 7 jewel movement is very clean and is in great working condition. This Elgin watch was made in the USA and is approximately 92 years old! Measures 33 (not including crown) x 40 mm (lug to lug).
